Write fast, turn left 5: The swag bag
At every media event, the hosts offer up some grease for the wheels. Sometimes it’s a buffet, sometimes much more. (Sometimes much less. Back in college, I’d cover football games where the ‘spread’ was a loaf of bread, a package of baloney and a bottle of mustard. Some assembly required.)
Anyway, at the NASCAR media day, we each received a shopping bag stuffed full of the goodness you see in that photo- caps, glasses, snacks, post-it notes, coupons and other swag. Not quite as good as the PGA Tour events that give us golf shirts, but you know what? It’s free stuff, so, you know, complaining about it is the height of douchebaggery. Plus, it makes for great free gifts for my kids.
